Abstract
The oil film and friction characteristics of piston rings operating in the mixed lubrication regime are analyzed. The friction force is predicted by considering the effects of surface roughness and asperity contact. The effect of oil viscosity and engine speed on the oil film thickness and friction characteristics are examined.
