Abstract

The potential capability of an organic positive-electrode active material for rechargeable magnesium batteries was investigated. 2,5-Dimethoxy-1,4- benzoquinone (DMBQ), which is known to work as a positive-electrode active material in the lithium system, was examined. The DMBQ electrode showed a discharge capacity of 260mAh g(DMBQ)-1 and an average voltage of 0.9V versus a magnesium quasi-reference electrode. The DMBQ electrode was charged and discharged reversibly with Mg2+ ions for several cycles.
