Metastasis of the liposarcoma to the skull: A case report

We report a rare case of liposarcoma metastasizing to the skull and discuss the histopathological characteristics of metastatic liposarcoma. A 75-year-old female was admitted to our hospital suffering from a left occipital subcutaneous mass, which had grown rapidly for six months. Two years previously she had suffered from a right upper arm liposarcoma, which had been removed. The tumor, which destroyed the left occipital and pyramidal bone and extended to the epidural space, was completely removed and the histopathological diagnosis was myxoid liposarcoma, as was a specimen of the previous tumor in the arm. Metastasis of liposarcoma to the skull or central nervous system had only been reported in 5 previous cases. Histologically, the tumor in the present case was characterized by its resemblance to malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
