Abstract

The electrical resistivity (ρ) and the relative length change (ΔL/L) in the polycrystalline Eu0.58Sr0.42MnO3 having distorted perovskite structure have been measured at high pressure up to 2 GPa and magnetic field up to 5 T. By applying magnetic field at low temperature, the electronic state is changed from insulator to metal accompanied by a discontinuous change in ρ and ΔL/L. The metal-insulator transition field (HM-I) decreases with increasing pressure. At high pressure above 0.8 GPa, the metal-insulator transition has been observed below 60 K in zero magnetic field.
