Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a measurement method and apparatus which is capable of measuring ethanol concentration in alcohol drinks in a simple, easy way. Two major improvements were adopted: choice of a membrane material suitable for ethanol measurement and the increase of KCl concentration added to each sample. The sensor using one lipid membrane electrode showed a good stability of response during the measurement of 9 shochu samples of repeated 50 times. The measurement error was below 0.3 Vol.% ethanol, which implies that this method can be applied to the actual use of ethanol concentration measurement.
