Abstract

The differential cross section and the analyzing powers, Ay, Ayy, Axx, and Axz, have been measured for polarized deuteron elastic scattering from 40Ca at 270 MeV. An optical model analysis reproduces the data with only central, spin-orbit, and TR tensor terms, and shows the importance of effects arising from the imaginary parts of the potential, in particular for Axx. No evidence is seen for either a TP or TL tensor potential.
