Magnetocaloric effect of ErCo2

The magnetocaloric effect was examined for ErCo2, which shows a first-order ferrimagnetic to paramagnetic transition at 32 K. The application of a magnetic field of 8 T causes a temperature change of 13 K under adiabatic conditions. The results strongly suggest that ErCo2 has a high potential for a working substance of magnetic refrigeration at 30-50 K.
