Abstract

The concentration of light for getting very high field intensities in photonic crystals and plasmon optical cavities was investigated. The capability enables the reduction of the size of optical components and leads to their integration in large numbers. Large enhancement of internal quantum efficiencies were measured when silver or aluminum layers were deposited 10 nm above an InGaN light emitting layer. The results of Al and Ag samples show exponential increases in luminescence intensity as the spacer thickness is decreased, whereas no such such improvement was measured in gold coated QWs.
