N2 - Recently, it has been reported that many patients with acute myelomonocytic leukemia showed rearrangements of chromosome 16 in leukemic cells and abnormal eosinophils in bone marrow. Among the reported cases, the youngest was a 14-month-old male infant. We report a 9-month-old female infant with acute myelomonocytic leukemia with leukemic cells having a pericentric inversion of chromosome 16, inv (16) (p13q22), and for whom abnormal immature eosinophils with basophilic granules were observed in the bone marrow. The patient achieved complete remission after several courses of combination chemotherapy, and neither abnormal marrow eosinophils nor chromosomal abnormalities have been founds after nine months.
