Abstract

An experimental confirmation of the presence of zonal flows in magnetically confined toroidal plasma using an advanced diagnostic system-dual heavy ion beam probes was presented. A fluctuation spectrum of electric field, a spatiotemporal structure of the zonal flows, their long-range correlation with toroidal symmetry, and the difference in the zonal flow amplitude with and without a transport barrier were provided by the simultaneous observation of an electric field at two distant toroidal locations in the high temperature plasma. The waveforms without any phase shift demonstrate the toroidal symmetry of electric field fluctuation. It was observed that the waveform indicate the fluctuation amplitude of ∼1V.
