Abstract

The purpose of this article is to develop a method for identifying the city region with the commuting and school attending data. Two basic ideas produce the identification method; one is that the city region must be separated from the whole region, with apparent differences which are recognized on sphere property concerned with the zonal interaction. Another, the city region should be separated by several boundaries (multi-boundary city region or multi-sphere city region) to describe the ambiguity of actual interaction. The city regions in the North Kyushu Area are studied over the period of 1965-1985, and some considerations can be made about the regional structures and the features of multi-boundary city region.
