Hydrogen storage capability of MgNi2 processed by high pressure torsion

    Hydrogenation was undertaken in MgNi2 after intense straining by the process of high pressure torsion (HPT). Despite the general acceptance that MgNi2 is not a hydrogen absorber, quantitative analysis demonstrated that the HPT process introduced the capability of hydrogen storage in MgNi2. Although the total hydrogen content was not sufficient, the hydrogen storage performance clearly appeared in the MgNi2. XRD analysis suggested that the hydrogen should be present at grain boundaries.
