Abstract
Decompression failure of rubber sealing materials by blistering is influenced by the properties of the material and by environmental conditions. Several types of rubber composite were exposed to high pressure hydrogen gas, and the relationships between blister damage, hydrogen content, and mechanical properties were examined. Chemical degradation as a result of hydrogen exposure was also evaluated. A high pressure hydrogen durability tester that permits repeated exposure of rubber O-rings to high pressure hydrogen gas at up to 90. MPa and temperatures from -. 60 to +. 100. °C was developed and used to examine the effects of environmental conditions on blister damage.
