Hybrid electro-optic polymer modulators

Abstract

In this letter, we report a TiO2/electro-optic polymer hybrid rib-waveguide with a low figure of merit of 3.3·V·cm, corresponding to 1.65·V·cm in a traditional push-pull Mach-Zehnder interferometer structure. This low figure of merit results from the 80% improved poling efficiency of our EO polymer in the hybrid structure. The waveguide also possesses a relatively low propagation loss of 3.0 dB/cm and a simple fabrication process.
