Abstract
The hexagonal compound UCuGe, an antiferromagnet with TN=48 K, exhibits in fields 38-45 T (at 4.2 K), applied along the c-axis, a spin-flop transition to a state with a moment of 1.35μB/U. The magnetic susceptibility in fields applied along the basal plane is considerably higher than along the c-axis but no transition occurs in fields up to 42 T applied along either the 〈100〉 or 〈120〉 axis. The irreversible (magnetic history dependent) magnetization anomaly observed around 15 T (at 4.2 K) is attributed to repopulation of antiferromagnetic domains.
