Abstract

We previously developed a microfluidic device which can transfer mitochondria between live single cells by promoting cytoplasmic connection through a microtunnel [1]. In this study, we succeeded to generate transmitochondrial cybrids, or mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-replaced cells, using the microfluidic device by performing mitochondrial transfer from a mtDNA-intact cell to a mtDNA-less (ρ0) cell.
