Abstract

A scintillation crystal cerium doped gadolinium orthosilicate, Gd2SiO5-GSO(Ce), is one of the new scintillators that were developed in the past few years. The GSO crystal has a rather larger density than other inorganic scintillators, and offers high full energy peak efficiency (FEPE) in detecting X- and gamma-rays. In the present work, we measured the FEPE by using several sources and examined semi-empirical formula for the FEPE of GSO(Ce) scintillator detectors. The GSO(Ce) showed larger FEPE values than the NaI(Tl) by factor 1.3 as a result of measurement.
