Abstract

C60 molecules were deposited on cleaved surfaces of NaCl held at 200°C and 250°C. At an early stage of the film growth, islands of hexagonal thin plates and three-dimensional particles with planar defects were formed. Among the latter particles, multiply twinned particles (MTPs) with pentagonal shape were found. The inevitable angular gap in the MTP structure was filled up by an introduction of lattice defects.
