FDTD approach to the time-domain inverse scattering problem for a lossy cylindrical object

Abstract

We present a time-domain propagation-backpropagation algorithm for computing images of internal structures of a two-dimensional object with high-contrast electric properties. The algorithm is based on optimization technique. In each iteration step of the algorithm one forward problem and one adjoint problem are solved efficiently by using the finite-difference time-domain method. A numerical calculation shows that the algorithm can image a malignant tumor in normal breast tissue.
