N2 - Glass fiber-reinforced metal laminates have already been developed as Glare and used in A380 as upper fuselage panels. Though a lot of efforts were made to develop Carbon Fiber-reinforced Metal Laminates (CFMLs), two major problems were unsolved. They were the galvanic corrosion and large thermal residual stresses. A new galvanic corrosion-resistant coating has successfully proposed, which consists of a sulfuric acid anodizing and a silica nano-particle reinforced hybrid sol-gel coating. This paper investigates the damage evolution of a mechanical pin joint of CFML with the new coating under the quasi-static tensile loading. Two peaks of load and their damage evolutions are identified by the microscopic fracture analysis.
