    Abstract

Electron-deficient bislactams, isoindigo and benzodipyrrolidone, were converted into dimeric aza-BODIPY analogues by a Schiff base forming reaction. These novel aza-BODIPY analogues exhibited bathochromically-shifted absorption and anodic shifts of the reduction potentials, implying their potential application as n-type chromophores in optoelectronics.
