Abstract

We have produced an experimental lens-induced granulomatous endophthalmitis (ELGE) after one intravitreous injection with porcine serum albumin (PSA) and lens disruption in guinea pigs that had previously treated with only one systemic sensitization with PSA in complete Freund's adjuvant. This method is a new and easier way to produce ELGE. Histopathologically, the present animal model showed a typical zonal granulomatous inflammation around the ruptured lens. These findings resemble those in the patients of lens-induced endophthalmitis.
