Abstract

Knowledge on the excitation energy transfer in the phosphor materials is necessary to improve their luminescence characteristics. Using theoretical methods we investigated the excitation energy transfer in Eu-doped BaMgAl 10O17 and NaAl11O17. We developed a new calculation method for excitation energy transfer through exchange interaction. The results show that the excitation energy is transferred through the conduction plane in BaMgAl10O17 and the spinel block in NaAl11O17. Structural defects forming localized levels seem to decrease the efficiency of the energy transfer.
