Abstract
Phase behavior of 4-substituted polystyrenes/polyisoprene (PI) blends was examined by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) at various temperatures. The SANS intensities for these blends in the low-q regime increase with an increase of temperature, showing a lower critical solution temperature (LCST) type phase diagrams. Flory-Huggins interaction parameters, χ, for these blends evaluated with random phase approximation, and the order of the magnitude of χ is χPtBs/d-PI < χd-PTMSS/PI < χPTESS/d-PI, where PtBS, PTMSS and PTESS denote poly(4-tert-butylstyrene), poly(4-trimethylsilylstyrene) and poly(4-triethylsilylstyrene), respectively. This result can be explained by Polymer Reference Interaction Site Model (PRISM) theory proposed by Schweizer.
