Purpose: To report the outcome of vitreous surgery for macular hole with adjunctive use of brilliant blue G as compared with indocyanine green (ICG) and triamcinolone acetonide (TA). Cases and Method: This study was made on 50 eyes of 50 cases who underwent peeling of internal limiting membrane (ILM) for idiopathic macular hole and who were followed up for 3 months or longer. During surgery, ILM was stained by brilliant blue G in 10 eyes, ICG in 26 eyes, and TA in 14 eyes. Cases in brilliant blue G group received 25 G vitrectomy, injection of 1 ml 100% SF 6 after fluid-air exchange and remained in prone position for 7 days. Visual acuity was evaluated as logMAR. Results: ILM was well stained by a single use of brilliant blue G. Visual acuity improved significantly 3 months after surgery to remain for 6 months without macular injury or visual field defect in this group. There was no difference among the 3 groups regarding rate of hole closure or course of visual acuity. Conclusion: Brilliant blue G is effective and safe in staining ILM in macular hole surgery.
