Abstract
To investigate the interactions between carbon dioxide (CO2) and Sylgard-184, which is mainly composed of polydimethylsiloxane and dimethylvinylated and trimethylated silica, the electronic structure of CO2 sorbed in Sylgard-184 was evaluated by using X-ray emission spectroscopy. The spectrum corresponding to the highest occupied molecular orbital of CO2 in the membrane showed a shoulder on the high energy side compared with that of CO2 gas, indicating that the symmetry of the electronic structure was disturbed owing to the interaction with Sylgard components.
