Abstract
The characteristics of capacitive touch panels were examined via electromagnetic field numerical analysis, with focus on the comparison between self- and mutual-capacitive panels. The results indicate the need for an AC-voltage-applied shield electrode and a high-sensitivity self-capacitive panel. The results also highlight a spatial resolution issue and the electrical role of dummy electrodes in the mutual-capacitive panel.
