Abstract

Miscibility of poly(4-trimethylsilylstyrene)(PTMSS) / l,4-polyisoprene(l,4- PI) blend was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in conjunction with optical microscopy, and the result was compared with that for PTMSS/1,2- and 3,4-polyisoprene (vinyl-PI). PTMSS / 1,4-PI blend was miscible at room temperature and its phase diagram exhibited a lower critical solution temperature (LCST). At the same molecular weight, the LCST of PTMSS / vinyl-PI blend was at least higher than 473 K but that of PTMSS / 1,4-PI blend was 368 K. This means that the miscibility of 1,4-PI with PTMSS is much lower than that of vinyl-PI.
