Abstract
Bi2O3 is added to ceramic YBa2Cu 3Ox by powder mixing and 'grain coating' respectively. As the result of the transport measurements, Tc is found to be improved by Bi2O3 addition. In particular, introduction of Bi 2O3 by use of the 'grain coating' process, which the authors propose as a method of obtaining a thin and even intergrain distribution, produces a considerable enhancement in Jc. The optimum coating thickness falls in the vicinity of the coherence length of the oxide superconductor.
