Abstract
We demonstrate a new method for the preparation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) utilising dye-sensitised photo-reduction on triple-stranded β-1,3-glucans. Reflecting the chiral helical structure of these polysaccharides, the chiral plasmonic AgNPs were yielded when hydrophobic dyes strongly interacting with the helical β-1,3-glucan main-chain were used. This system offers a new strategy to create chiral plasmonic AgNPs and a new idea to utilise helix-forming polysaccharides as a chiral template.
