Abstract

For the ecological and fracture proof design of large container ships, high-strength and high-toughness YP47 steel plates were developed. The plates were manufactured by the use of TMCP with HAZ toughness improvement technologies. The deep notch test and the duplex ESSO test were conducted, and YP47 demonstrated the good characteristics of brittle crack initiation in welded joints and arrest in base metal plates. This contributes to double integrity for the practical use of container ships by preventing both brittle crack initiation and long propagation.
