Abstract

In order to suppress the generation of greenhouse gases associated with the use of automobiles, hybrid cars and electric vehicles have been released and spreading in the world. About motorcycle, scooter type electric motorcycles have been sold. It is particularly widespread in China. However, in a motorcycle battery installation space is small, the range is short compared with electric vehicles, improvement of power saving and battery is important. The requirement for electric motorcycles is the high efficiency motor operated in variable speeds. A permanent magnet motor can be operated at the rated power with high efficiency but efficiency is low at a high speed. In this paper, we present new techniques to improve the efficiency and propose the motor specification for electric motorcycles.
