Abstract
The presampling modulation transfer function (MTF) can be determined by the edge spread function (ESF) in which the sampling interval is narrower than the pixel-to-pixel interval from slight angled edge image. It is important that the precision of the presampling MTF depend on the precision of the edge angle. In this study, we have developed the automated method, which includes a precise edge angle determination process for the measurement of the presampling MTF. To determine the precise edge angle, we employed the image projection technique of the Sobel output image. The image projection technique includes an image rotation in all direction (360-degree) and the integration of the Sobel output along the vertical center band. The edge angle is determined when the output value of the projection becomes maximum. We compared the difference between the presampling MTFs obtained by the slit method and the edge method. The presampling MTFs of the computed radiography (CR) system obtained by the edge method was comparable to those of the slit method. The method in this study is easy and sufficient for the quantitative evaluation of resolution property of digital imaging system.
