N2 - Overexpression of cyclin D1 has been found in a variety of malignancies and is suggested to be related to tumor progression. We immunohistochemically investigated the overexpression of cyclin D1 protein in 92 laryngeal carcinomas. Twenty-eight (30.4%) of the carcinoma specimens showed overexpression of cyclin D1. This overexpression was not related to the tumor stage, lymph node matastasis, or clinical outcome. However, the overexpression of cyclin D1 in patients with local recurrence was significantly higher than in patients with no recurrence. Cyclin D1 immunohistochemical staining is considered to be a useful marker for predicting tumor recurrence.
