Abstract
In this work we consider the thermodynamic description of the liquid-liquid phase behaviour of dextran+poly (ethylene glycol)+ water aqueous two-phase systems which are of great interest for separations in modern biotechnology. This paper is primarily concerned with the comparison of correlation performance among the osmotic virial, the conventional Flory-Huggins and the modified Flory-Huggins models for the aqueous two-phase polymer systems containing dextran and poly (ethylene glycol). The effect of the average molecular weight of the polymers on the phase diagram, i. e., liquid-liquid two-phase region, was discussed. Furthermore, the distribution behaviour of polymer of which the molecular weight is diversed, such as dextran, was also considered.
