Abstract
In this study c-axis-correlated pinning centers which are known to increase the critical current density (Jc) for B || c-axis were produced by heavy-ion-irradiation in REBa2Cu3Oy (RE: rare earth element RE123) coated conductors and the subsequent changes in J c were measured. A peak in the angular dependence of Jc induced by the defects was observed for applied magnetic fields of up to 13T for Er123 films with matching fields of Bφ = 0.1 and 1 T. We found that the columnar defects led to improvements in Jc even under applied magnetic fields more than 130 times higher than Bφ.
