Abstract

Novel polymorph of the ferric spin crossover complex, β-[Fe(qsal) 2]I 3 [qsalH = N-(8-quinolyl)salicylaldimine], has been prepared and characterized by magnetic susceptibilities and Mössbauer spectra. β polymorph exhibited a cooperative complete spin transition with a thermal hysteresis of 25 K and a tendency to be quenched in the high-spin (HS) state, which is contrastive to a gradual incomplete spin conversion in α polymorph.
