Abstract

Soft-mode turbulence (SMT) is a spatiotemporal chaos in electrohydrodynamic convective systems. It is caused by a nonlinear interaction between the convection mode and a Nambu-Goldstone mode, and bifurcates supercritically from a stationary uniform state. In this paper, we clarify that a spatial structure larger than a convective roll exists in SMT, which shows a patchlike domain structure characterized by wavevector directions. The dependence of the average size of the patch structure on the control parameter ε is given as ε-1/2.
