Abstract
The role of colloids in transporting radionuclides in the far field of a geologic repository was analyzed. The colloid samples were analyzed using high-angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopic (EDS) elemental mapping. It was observed that cesium and uranium are associated with unidentified phase rich in Si and Fe. Pu was shown to be preferentially adsorb onto Mn-oxides in the presence of Fe-oxides.
