Abstract

Clinicopathological features of two Japanese patients (25-year-old and 83-year-old men) with an inflammatory cloacogenic polyp (ICP) are described. Both of the patients have been suffered from hemorrhoids and defecation disturbance. Colonoscopic features are characterized by a solitary sessile hyperemic polypoidal mass (2 and 3 cm in diameter) with partly villous surface located in the anterior wall of the lower rectum, focally covered by stratified squamous epithelium of the anal verge. Histological examinations show hyperplastic crypts and stromal fibromuscular hypertrophy. These findings seem to indicate mucosal prolapse arround the hemorrhoid in polypogenesis of ICP.
