Abstract
We analysed the clinical characteristics of prostate cancer patients with metastatic lesions who had a serum PSA level of less than 10 ng/ml. There were four such patients among 197 newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients (2.0%) and among 44 prostate cancer patients with a serum PSA level of less than 10 ng/ml (9.1%). All the patients had Gleason grade 4 or 5 components in needle biopsy specimens and local advanced disease in TRUS and/or MRI. Endocrine therapies were not effective in 3 patients initially. Clinical evaluation of metastatic lesions is needed even in prostate cancer patients with a serum PSA level of less than 10 ng/ml, particularly in the case of those patients with poorly differentiated components and/or local advanced disease.
