N2 - To study the usefulness of an in vitro succinate dehydrogenase inhibition (SDI) test for predicting individual clinical responses to chemotherapy, a total of 90 skin tumors (27 SCC, 15 MM, 14 lymphoma, 8 extramammary Paget's disease etc.) were surgically removed from patients hospitalized at Kyushu University Hospital during the period 1985 to 1998. Evaluable chemosensitivity data were obtained from 84 specimens (24 SCC, 15 MM, 13 lymphoma, 7 extamammary Paget's disease etc.). Large differences in sensitivity were seen between the individual patients for each disease. Moreover, no significant anti-tumor activity was observed in any of the drugs administered for each malignancy. As the number of cases was very small, trials with many more cases are necessary to evaluate the association between in vitro sensitivity and the clinical response.
