Abstract

A review containing 59 references of the structure, properties and preparation processes of carbonaceous mesophase pitch and its derivatives for use in carbon fibre manufacture is presented. There is emphasis on the phase transition, chemical structure of constituent species, interactions between these components and preparative kinetics.
