Biomechanical assessment for fully edentulous maxilla with dental implants

In this study, two different types of 3D maxillary bone models varying in the shape and the bone quality were constructed using CT images of a female and a male patient with edentulous maxilla. Implant treatment was then provided to the models using six implants and a prosthesis for each. Finite element analysis was performed to characterize the stress state of maxilla. It is noted that the maximum value in the female model was much higher than that in the male model, mainly owing to the weak structure of maxilla of the female patient.
