Abstract
According to the International Maritime Organization performance standards for protective coatings, it is mandatory to manage the paint condition on the surfaces of cargo hold and ballast tanks of a ship. Since this surface coating can be damaged by burning during welding work while building a ship, it is necessary to understand the conditions in which backside burning occurs and to accordingly consider precautions against backside burning. In this study, we develop a method to evaluate prevention measures against backside burning by conducting welding experiments and constructing a computer simulation.
