N2 - The absolute value of the vector analyzing power Ay of d-12C elastic scattering was derived to be 0.412 ± 0.011 at 56 MeV and 47.5°. The value was determined by simultaneous measurements of the d-12C elastic scattering and the 16O(d, α)14N react leading to the 4.915 MeV, 0- state. In this reaction the tensor analyzing power Ayy is identically 1.0 irrespective of the incident energy and the scattering angle. Angular distributions of the cross section and the vector and tensor analyzing powers of the d-12C elastic scattering were measured at 70, 65, 56, 52, 49, 45, 40 and 35 MeV incident energies in the angular range from 30° to 65° in the laboratory system. These data will be valuable for the monitoring of beam polarization in this energy region. They are also useful to design a polarimeter to measure the polarization of emitted deuterons from nuclear reactions.
