This work was supported by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education of Japan, for which we express our gratitude. The computations were carried out on HITAC M-200H computers at the Information Processing Center of Hiroshima University and HITAC M-680H computers at the Institute for Molecular Science. The authors are grateful to Mr. S. Jones for his critical reading of our manuscript and for correcting the English.

N2 - An iterative transfer perturbation method is applied to study the interaction between a polymer and a small molecule and the results obtained are in good agreement with those from the usual extended Hückel calculations. We expect this method to provide a basis for the explanation of various experimental phenomena found in polymer systems.
