N2 - The paper discusses a unified approach to scheduling problems of shipbuilding lines based on discrete event-driven system theory. The dynamics of production lines are mathematically described using linear system representations based on Max-Plus algebra, which makes it possible to solve the scheduling problems to keep delivery dates strictly by adjusting arriving times of parts or materials based on model predictive control theory. It is discussed how to model a complex shipbuilding line consisting of conveyer lines and stockyards. Simulation results show that the scheduling problem can be effectively solved.
