Abstract

A control system using a filtered saw deviation is proposed in this study to keep the saw deviations within limits by the automatic control of the workpiece feed-rate in band-sawing. The system consists of a control loop in which the workpiece feed-rate is controlled by an in-process computation using filtered signals of saw blade deviations monitored by in-process measurements. The signals are provided to the controller to enable evaluation of the saw deviation and to adjust the workpiece feed-rate automatically during the machining process. It was concluded that the practical use of automatic band-sawing to keep the saw deviation within required limits by a workpiece feed-rate control based on the saw blade displacement obtained by filtering can be expected by adopting the method proposed in this study. With two possibilities, control of band-sawing based on the real saw deviation and on the filtered saw deviation, better results were obtained with the latter.
