N2 - Aging behaviour in a dental low carat gold alloy was studied by hardness tests, resistivity measurements, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Aging at 500 °C produced two stages which were accompanied by hardening and softening. They corresponded to a reaction at the grain interior and at the grain boundary respectively. Aging at 400 °C was completed in three stages. In the intermediate aging period, an additional hardening due to the formation of a CuAuII-type structure was observed. The final microstructure depended on the aging temperature associated with the homologous temperature.
